Fall 2024 Skills Development Courses

The Pilates Resource Catalogue Instructor Skills Development Workshops

If you’re a Pilates instructor looking for the tools to improve your Pilates programming, establish your clientele or refresh your teaching skills and approach, this is a great opportunity to be inspired by fresh content and a different perspective on teaching Pilates.

Why should I participate?

After completing their Pilates certification, the next step for new Pilates instructors is to establish their clientele. Oftentime, figuring out how to program for  diverse populations and ‘real’ clients can be a challenging and overwhelming experience.

For experienced Pilates instructors with a full client load, teaching fatigue can often show up in redundant, lacklustre workouts.

A different and fresh perspective to promote your professional development is often the kickstart needed to be inspired to approach what you know through a different lens.

These workshops are designed to provide experienced and new instructors alike with the tools, guidance and support to program smartly, creatively and effectively so that they can build, and sustain, their Pilates clientele.

What are we doing?

The Pilates Resource Catalogue Skills Development Workshops are interactive programs, where part of the content is determined by the participants.

If you’re joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to submit the exercises, questions and client concerns that you’d like reviewed 2 weeks prior to each session and a selection of those will be integrated into the workshop.

We’ll comprehensively break down a selection of exercises from all levels. You’ll gain a stronger understanding of how to create Pilates programs that are progressive, appropriate and structured in a way that makes sense for your client – regardless of their level.

The tools that are needed to create a successful career teaching Pilates are found in the questions asked. Questions like:

  • What is the exercise objective?
  • How can we effectively cue and correct? What should we be looking for?
  • What are the common disconnects?
  • What are supplementary movement options to make an exercise accessible and/or challenging?

As we answer these questions, each participant will gain a better understanding and more comprehensive knowledge of how to make use of the following teaching tools and approaches:

  • Strong verbal skills (effective cueing, correcting and explaining of exercises)
  • Tactile cues (appropriate hands on assistance)
  • Visual tools (what to look for and where plus how to integrate into teaching)
  • Prep and Structure (planning, creating and layering your Pilates programs)

We encourage thoughtful, customized programming geared towards the individual client and their particular needs.

Overarching your review and learning will be a discussion of the interrelationship between client retention and ongoing professional development.

Who do we have in mind?

All Pilates instructors are welcome. Client teaching experience is recommended but not required.
